Press Release

Jeanine Hofland Contemporary Art proudly presents Chewing Gum as Constellation, the first solo exhibition of Dutch artist Pim Blokker (1974, NL) at the gallery.

The title of the exhibition poses the deformable feature of the chewing gum as constellation, emphasizing the sometimes absurd and variable digestion of daily life reality.

The search for the depiction of universal chimera, or a universal visualization of our mental space, characterizes Pim Blokker's paintings, wherein he often bends earnest and serious narratives into surreal, absurd and sometimes hilarious situations.

Blokker approaches the canvas as a performance of the  subconscious, where layers of paint and colors balance between order and chaos, where pure abstraction merges with figurative elements and where seriousness and humor alternate and assemble.

Pim Blokker currently lives and works in Amsterdam. His work has been shown in several group exhibitions in Europe, including the International Student triennial in Istanbul in 2003 and kunstraum Dusseldorf in 2010. In 2004 he graduated from the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague and between 2009 and 2010 Pim Blokker was an artist in Residence at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam.
